Das KoKizeigt im August: Ice Aged

In July and August, the Great Church presents the sculpture "Dancing Christ" by the iron sculptor Hilke Leu, accompanied by numerous events on the theme of dance. Figure skating can be done seriously and with sporting ambition, even at a more mature age. At least that's the opinion of the six late-comers presented by director Alexandra Sell in this documentary. There is Elena, a power plant engineer, Nadja, who took up ice skating at the age of 44, and Linda, a multiple British pairs skating champion in her youth. We also meet Toos Wintjes from the Netherlands, who is in her late sixties, and the two Americans Robert and Erica, who successfully play the role of the "rumbling couple" on the ice. The goal and point of longing for all of them is the "Adult Figure Skating Competition" in Oberstdorf. The director accompanies the ice enthusiasts with a narrative commentary and condenses the complex biographical elements so skillfully that "Ice Aged" manages entirely without the interview inserts usually found in documentaries. An extremely original documentary, especially for anyone who enjoys double axels and triple Rittberger.
