Imagine a tranquil place. Surrounded by rivers, meadows and hilly countryside lies Unterallersau. The village, far away from the hustle and bustle of the city, exciting nightlife or hectic activity, invites you to find your home there in a persistent tranquillity.

Everything has been running with the same consistency for decades, day after day, year after year, until the day when the universally respected head of the community, the mayor, is found murdered. A murder in Unterallersau? And then the mayor too? The police chief is faced with a mystery. With his suitcase typewriter and his Vesperbox, he sets off in search of the perpetrator. Does he come from the ranks of the close-knit village community? Was it a newcomer, a newcomer with a new taste, even a local resident?
