Every two years since 2000, the Marburger Kunstverein has presented works by students and graduates of an academy or art college.

Destruction is loud. And quiet. It can be visible - in ruins, ruptures, dividing lines - or go unnoticed, creeping, systemic, beneath the surface. The DEMO exhibition at the Marburger Kunstverein shows works by thirteen young artists from the Offenbach University of Art and Design from the sculpture (Prof. Mike Bouchet) and experimental spatial concepts (Prof. Heiner Blum) courses, who deal with this topic in very different ways.
DEMO - that stands for demolition as well as demonstration. Both describe acts of confrontation, visualization and upheaval. The works in the exhibition pick up on this ambivalence and fragility: Destruction appears here not only as an end point, but also as a method, a gesture of recognition or liberation. Sometimes political, sometimes poetic, sometimes ironic, sometimes painfully personal.
Whether through technical irritations, social tensions or physical processes - many works revolve around orders that are shaken, dissolved or reassembled. They negotiate forms of transition, react to a present that is characterized by complexity and unrest, and open up spaces for reflection, friction and possible reorientation.
DEMO is not a swan song - but an exploration. An exhibition about ruptures - and what can develop from them.
