Politics needs images. Media Chancellor Helmut Schmidt already knew that. But how can democratic values be represented with images? And which images threaten democracy then and now?

In this one-hour themed tour through the exhibition "Schmidt! Living Democracy", the development of the media, political images and phenomena in political communication in the 20th and 21st centuries will be examined and the question posed: What could the democracy of tomorrow look like?

The BKHS is also part of Hamburg Press Freedom Week, which will focus on the topics of press freedom and media diversity from November 2 to 8, 2025. During this week of action, which is taking place for the third time on the initiative of the Körber Foundation and ZEIT STIFTUNG BUCERIUS , we are offering a variety of different formats.
