Libretto by Richard Wagner
He tried to defy God and the forces of nature. That is why the Flying Dutchman was condemned to endless wandering on the seas. Only the faithful love of a woman can give him salvation. Senta wants to be this savior and confronts the mysterious man with determination. Two extreme personalities face each other, who are similar in their unconditionality and do not shy away from death.
With his first fully-fledged opera, the young Richard Wagner achieved an outstanding portrayal of the forces of nature and the gruesome: a seething sea of sound in a state of emergency!
"This opera is a storm that pushes forward. And that's exactly how I want to bring the action to the stage: untamed, driven, full of movement."
