Lette is ugly. So ugly that his boss no longer wants to let him loose on customers. When even Lette's wife shows understanding for this decision, he seeks professional help. After the cosmetic surgery, nothing is as it was before, because the doctor has achieved a masterpiece and Lette's new look opens up unimagined professional, economic and erotic opportunities for him. One success follows another and Lette seems to be a made man. But suddenly, people who look just like him start popping up all over the city. The doctor has systematized the successful operation and gives every paying patient Lette's "unique face" on request. Lette takes up the fight for his own identity, which suddenly no longer seems so certain to him.

Marius von Mayenburg (*1972) lets his characters stumble from one confusion to the next full of linguistic wit, taking the desire for aesthetic self-optimization indoctrinated by the media and advertising to the extreme.
