Satirical comedy based on Heinrich Mann

"Diederich Hessling was a soft child who loved to dream, was afraid of everything and suffered a lot from his ears." So begins one of the most important novels of the 20th century. In it, the clairvoyant author Heinrich Mann (1871 - 1950) provides a psychogram of the German philistine, for whom kowtowing to those in power and kicking the powerless becomes the essence of his character.

The Teamtheater brings Mann's masterpiece to the stage in his long-time home town of Munich - as a fast-paced, bitter satire with the sharpness of content and visual elegance of the legendary magazine "Simplicissimus".

In an absurd present, in which phrases are once again being trotted out and facts are being created that until recently seemed to have been relegated to the brown dung heap of history, DER UNTERTAN is intended to contribute both to the culture of remembrance and to sustainability: How did the womb from which the evil spirit crawled become fertile? What turns people into authority-bound followers of orders? How can intelligence and humor be used as a weapon against dull popular sentiment?

Experience the unstoppable rise of paper manufacturer Diederich Hessling, who markets his toilet paper with patriotic slogans, loves beer far more than women and has only one wish deep in his abysmal soul - to finally rise and fall in an ultimate "Hurray!" cry!
