The classic children's book "The Wizard of Oz"
During a storm, Dorothy and her little house and dog Toto are blown into the fairytale land of Oz. There she and the house land on the wicked witch. The oppressed munchkins are delighted. They immediately make her a heroine. But Dorothy only has one wish: she wants to go home again!
The munchkins explain that only the wizard can help. So Dorothy slips into the red magic shoes and follows the yellow path to the Wizard of Oz's Emerald City. On the way, she is pursued by the second wicked witch. She wants revenge and the red shoes to rule over Oz.
But Dorothy also meets new friends: Scheuch, Blechbüx and the fearful lion help Dorothy. The Good Witch of the North also intervenes from time to time. But in the end everything is completely different, the old is new and the new seems somehow familiar ...
Until everyone is back home and celebrating a wonderful party together with the audience, there is lots of music, lots of laughter and lots of amazement. There is singing, dancing and lovingly designed, colorful costumes that invite you to dream. And of course, as always, the audience wanders from venue to venue. After all, we are making an open-air traveling theater!
The Freilichtbühne Alfter presents the children's book classic from 1900 as an open-air hiking theater in its own text version with newly composed pieces of music on a small circular hiking trail along the Alfterer Böhling in the Rhenish foothills.
