The sound of Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek is as international as the line-up: traditional Anatolian sound elements meet psychedelia and progressive rock.
With her new album "Yarın Yoksa", Derya Yıldırım lends a modern voice to Anatolian folk music. Together with Grup Şimşek, she combines traditional songs with psychedelic sounds and hypnotic vocals - respectful but boldly reimagined. Growing up in Hamburg and influenced by the music of her family, Derya has developed her own sound language that unites past and present. Her special connection to the baglama - a seven-stringed Turkish lute - characterizes her style, complemented by piano, ud, guitar and saxophone. The group around Yıldırım, Graham Mushnik, Antonin Voyant and Helen Wells call their sound "Outernational" - transnational, powerful, universal. Produced by Grammy winner Leon Michels and released on Big Crown Records, "Yarın Yoksa" reflects a collective memory - poetic, resistant and more relevant than ever.
