From 1859 onwards, the Frankfurt freedom poet, satirist and dialect writer Friedrich Stoltze (1816 - 1891) spent almost every year at a spa in Königstein to relax and alleviate his various ailments in Dr. Georg Pingler's cold water bath. The first stay ended spectacularly for the writer, who was wanted by the Grand Duchy of Hesse-Darmstadt, with his escape from Königstein. Encouraged by his doctor and the Königstein innkeeper and hotelier Gottfried Pfaff, who became friends with the Frankfurt guest, Stoltze came to Königstein regularly from then on despite this first negative experience. The first edition of Stoltze's main work Frankfurter Latern was written in Königstein in 1860.
The special exhibition on Königstein traces Stoltze's special relationship with Königstein using historical photographs, illustrations, personal letters, stories and poems.
