The Lübeck Cultures of the World Collection invites you for the second time to celebrate the Día de Muertos, the Mexican Day of the Dead, this time at the Museum of Nature and the Environment.
This popular festival, which has been recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity, originated from the combination of Spanish-Catholic religious rituals and the commemoration of Día de los Muertos, which indigenous Mexicans have practiced since pre-Hispanic times.
On November 1 and 2, the German-Ibero-American Society Lübeck e.V. celebrates the natural cycle of life and death, which, like day and night, is inevitable and unstoppable. In Mexican folklore, the souls of our deceased visit us on these days, which is a reason for joy and celebration. In the most humble homes, in every cemetery, in every town, we celebrate not only the visit of our loved ones, but life itself. We remember with joy and color the happy moments our loved ones have given us in life, and at the same time rejoice that we can still enjoy life in all its manifestations.
There will once again be music, dancing and traditional food as well as a children's program with face painting and craft stations.
Guests are invited to bring photos of deceased relatives or pets as well as forgotten public figures to whom they would like to pay tribute. These will be displayed on the memorial altar and can remain there or be taken away if desired.
In cooperation with the German-Ibero-American Society Lübeck e.V.
