Two brothers, one adventure, one fantastic world: Nangijala. This is where Jonathan and "Krümel" end up. With their horses they roam the paradisiacal cherry blossom valley and the mountains. They fish, refresh themselves in the stream, warm themselves by the campfire and experience everything they have always dreamed of. But there are adventures in Nangijala that shouldn't be there. The neighboring Heckenrosental is oppressed by a cruel tyrant. The people are preparing to fight for freedom and Jonathan and Krümel are joining them. But not everyone is on their side and so begins a race against time ...

Astrid Lindgren's late masterpiece deals with the great, everlasting questions of good and evil, freedom and oppression and the moral duty to act from a child's perspective. The cohesion of people and the majesty of nature encourage the main characters to overcome their fears and grow beyond themselves in the process.
