Guided tour with Anna-Sophia Fischer
With the victory at Jena and Auerstedt, the French Emperor Napoleon was at the height of his power. For Brunswick, this meant the loss of its independence: the Duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel became part of the Kingdom of Westphalia, which was ruled by Jérôme, Napoléon's brother. The House of Guelph lost its rule.
The guided tour "The French are coming!" takes a closer look at the effects of this changed political situation on the Duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, the city of Brunswick and the palace. What were the economic, social and political consequences of Napoleonic rule in Brunswick and what was the "winter residence" all about?
