Let yourself be enchanted by an over 650-year-old tradition: on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at 4:00 pm, the Dresden Kreuzchor invites you to its solemn Easter Vespers in the venerable Kreuzkirche. Experience a program that combines the deeply rooted history of this unique series of events with the brilliant music of Gottfried August Homilius.

The weekly vespers in the Kreuzkirche are a living legend. For over six centuries, they have attracted visitors from all over the world without interruption - a unique continuity in the field of church music and liturgical events. Even today, thousands of listeners fill the church to be part of this special atmosphere.

At the center of this Easter Vespers is the work "Frohlocket und preiset" (HoWV I.11) by Gottfried August Homilius (1714-1785). As one of the most important Protestant church composers of the 18th century and presumed pupil of Johann Sebastian Bach, Homilius had a decisive influence on the church music of his time as Dresden Kreuzkantor (1755-1785). His extensive oeuvre, which comprises over 200 cantatas, is characterized by a masterful command of the sensitive style, which builds a fascinating bridge between the Baroque and Classical periods. "Frohlocket und preiset" is an outstanding example of his ability to musically unite deep emotionality and solemn splendor and to impressively set the message of Easter joy to music.
