Die Plätze denen, die sie beleben – ein Film über ALTER von Shooresh Fezoni & Ute Seitz

At ALTER in Mannheim, the open society is alive and well. People from different backgrounds come together to play table tennis, basketball and chess, dance, laugh, argue and forget the world around them. The film "Die Plätze denen, die sie beleben" by Shooresh Fezoni & Ute Seitz tells the story of the square and takes us back to a time full of uncertainty. It is clear that a non-profit project is only allowed to use the prime location on Alter Messplatz for a limited period of time. The city is planning a redesign and a large new building is to be built here with the Forum Deutsche Sprache. Then comes the offer to use the adjacent space permanently. The main prize? It's not that simple. On top of that, drugs and violence are making everyday life on the square increasingly difficult. The question soon arises as to whether ALTER will survive the move.

The OASE project, in the context of which the film was made, was funded by the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Building (BMWSB) and the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (BBSR) as part of the "National Urban Development Policy".
