Digitalisierung: Eine moderne Form der Ausbeutung?

When people talk about the power of big tech companies, the focus in Europe is usually on our dependence on US software and platform companies. However, it is often overlooked that these companies have built up their current market power not least through the intensive use of data, resources and labor from the Global South.

Journalist Ingo Dachwitz, together with Sven Hilbig, examined these connections in his book "Digitaler Kolonialismus. How tech corporations and superpowers are dividing up the world". As part of the Digital Fight Club, we want to talk to Ingo Dachwitz about his theses and discuss together how digital dependencies arise, which global inequalities they reinforce and what alternatives there are.

The focus will be on the following questions:

• How do the mechanisms of digital exploitation work?
• Which political and economic structures contribute to this?
• What approaches for more digital justice, sovereignty and participation can we develop further?

The event will take place in person at the Medienkulturzentrum Dresden and as a livestream. For better planning, we would be pleased if you register for participation in presence via this page. This will also secure you a place on site. But last-minute visitors are also welcome.
