"DMX FOR REEL": Filmfestival im Lichtwerk-Kino

Short films, animated videos and virtual reality productions from all fields of study at the Department of Design in cooperation with Salzerfilm.

At the beginning of the summer semester, the Department of Design cordially invites you to the 2nd "DMX FOR REEL" film festival at the Lichtwerk cinema in Ravensberger Park.

The matinee will show a 120-minute program consisting of productions by students of Digital Media and Experiment (DMX), Fashion Design, Communication Design and Photography as well as Theory of Design from the Department of Design at Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences: short films, animated videos and virtual reality productions created by students in the seminars or as independent works. The filmmakers will be present and will be introduced in short interviews on the stage in the movie theater between screenings.

"DMX FOR REEL" is an initiative of DMX students and honorary professor Marcus Wildelau, lecturer in film and sound design, who artistically supervises the young filmmakers: "With the festival, we want to address an interested public audience as well as young people interested in studying design in order to create a varied cinema experience in a special place and to honor the students' works on the big screen." Before and after the screening, there will be the opportunity to meet and talk in the foyer of the Lichtwerk.

The five-member student jury, headed by Bachelor student Charlotte Sülflohn, has put together a program of 31 works from the 51 films submitted. The jury attached particular importance to showcasing the diversity of creativity in the Department of Design and, in its selection, paid attention not only to the content and technical quality of the films, but also to the ideas and atmospheres of the films. In this way, both complete final projects and short practice projects from younger semesters are given a stage and show the development of the students and their great passion for storytelling.

In contrast to the first DMX-for-REEL festival in 2024, some photo and fashion films are also represented alongside short films, animations and experimental works. In terms of content, the formats of the works shown range from comedic clips to documentary and fictional works to deeply emotional dramas in short film format.
