French music is a matter close to Simon Gaudenz's heart - and at the same time forms a repertoire that is still too rarely the focus of attention in Germany. Its magic lies in its subtle distance: sounds like fleeting fragrances, dazzling plays of color, transparency and rhythmic precision form soundscapes of beguiling beauty. André Caplet's delicate cantata "Tout est lumière" - with Thora Runhilde Müller as soloist - as well as Ernest Chausson's intimate "Poème" and Maurice Ravel's concert rhapsody "Tzigane" - masterfully interpreted by violinist Tianwa Yang - can be heard in this spirit. César Franck's festive "Psalm 150" lets the Jena Philharmonic Choir shine, before Florent Schmitt's suite from the "Tragédie de Salomé" leads into sensual and opulent worlds of sound. A program that bears the signature of the General Music Director and aims to arouse the curiosity of the audience.
