Fairytale play based on the Brothers Grimm by Marec Béla Steffens;

♪♫ In came the wicked fairy, in came the fairy, in came the fairy,

♬♬ Then the evil fairy came in, fairy came in.

She hadn't been invited, of course. But it's also too annoying when you want to show off your golden plates but have one too few to invite all thirteen fairies from the whole kingdom and entertain them properly. The fairy who wasn't invited gets really angry. And curses the beautiful child whose christening is being celebrated so lavishly at the royal court. The princess is supposed to stab herself to death on a spindle. Naturally, the king wants to prevent this. He has all the spindles in the entire kingdom destroyed, chopped up and burned! But an evil fairy doesn't give in that easily. Almost fifteen years have passed and suddenly she is back: with a spinning wheel and a spindle. And Princess Sleeping Beauty will have to wait a long time to see if a prince comes and redeems her with a kiss. But when the prince comes, what does he find? Lots of snoring cones! And one of the Brothers Grimm, who appear in the story themselves, loses his trousers in the process - to the delight of Constable Krause.

Sleeping Beauty is one of the most famous fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm. Marec Béla Steffens, author of fairy-tale books and opera texts, has written a new version of the text especially for the Bamberg Marionette Theater (more about him at www.maerchenkater.de).
