Dresdner Kreuzchor singt zur Vesper

Let yourself be enchanted by a program full of musical treasures with exquisite choral music at the first Kreuzchor Vespers of the new season on Saturday, 23 August 2025, at 17:00 in the Kreuzkirche Dresden. Under the direction of Kreuzkantor Martin Lehmann, the Dresden Kreuzchor will present a multifaceted selection ranging from the Baroque period to the present day.

Vespers begins with the melodious "Introitus for the 10th Sunday after Trinity" by contemporary composer Diana Čemerytė, an atmospheric prelude that emphasizes the solemnity of the moment.

Later on, the Kreuzchor spans an arc from the Romantic period to the Baroque: Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's iconic "For he has commanded his angels" from the oratorio Elijah unfolds its heavenly beauty, while Anton Bruckner's "Os justi" impresses with its deep, polyphonic structure.

A highlight of the vespers will be the choral works by baroque master Andreas Hammerschmidt, whose magnificent double-choir motet "Der Herr ist mein Hirte" will fill the Kreuzkirche with its unique sound. His motet "Create in me, God, a pure heart" will also be performed. The program will be complemented by the famous "Abendlied" by Josef Rheinberger, one of the best-known motets of the Romantic period.

Organ works will round off the musical hour: Kreuz organist Holger Gehring plays the Toccata septima from Georg Muffat's Apparatus musico-organisticus. A wonderful afternoon that showcases the entire spectrum of sacred choral music - from the delicate, polyphonic lines to the powerful, double-choir sounds.
