JENSEITS DES KRIEGES (AT 1996 / 117 min.) by Ruth Beckermann

Young people select historical films that play around the festival motto: In the exhibition "War of Annihilation" about the crimes of the Wehrmacht, people who were there speak their memories into the camera: soldiers' honor, amnesia of guilt, relativization, remorse. Seeking a foothold in their own version of history, a generation stands before the testimonies of their past. Ruth Beckermann's questions are brief, the answers testify to the need to finally speak as much as to the habit of remaining silent.
