An evening about memory, resistance and hope.
In Echo of the Origin, Akeem Abidoye combines dance, ritual and memory to create a haunting examination of history and the present. The starting point is the joie de vivre of a culture in which dance is not just movement, but an expression of spirituality, community and deep roots. This heritage still reverberates today like an echo, reminding us again and again of our origins. But the echo also bears the traces of violence. Colonialism and oppression have tried to silence body, voice and expression. What was supposed to be destroyed nevertheless continues to resonate: in gestures, in memories, in the power of resistance. This reverberation gives rise to a look ahead. Echo of the Origin opens up a space for healing and hope, for the question of how we deal with the past and what possibilities for a new beginning arise from it.
This performance is an invitation to engage in a shared experience that keeps memories alive, makes injuries visible and celebrates the power to rise up again and again. There will be a discussion with the audience after the performance.
