On his latest album "I Know A Garden", Edwin Raphael dedicates himself to a dense and wild tapestry of dreams and memories. Lush chamber pop blossoms radiantly and fluidly, with the same care and attention that has shaped the world's most haunting recreations of Eden. On his early EPs and his world-building 2023 long-player "Warm Terracotta", the Montreal-based artist explored the shores of an island he had encountered in every dream. In the surrounding waters of "I Know A Garden", Raphael begins his journey inward, towards a green place at the center of the island that holds both the roots of his life and the buds of possibility that grow from it. It's the kind of world within the world that provides fertile ground for an artist who recognizes the complexity of the self and the strange sweetness of being.
