"Effi Briest swings in the cherry orchard with Elektra, Medea, Penthesilea and her three sisters Nora, Lulu and Franziska and plays hide and seek. Her courageous mother, Lady Macbeth, announces the arrival of Geert von Innstetten, who appears in a beaver coat and silk shoes and asks for Effi's dirty hands. Geert, who has recently had a love affair with Sara Sampson, moves to Damascus or Andorra after marrying Effi at Bernarda Alba's house. Effi becomes pregnant, St. Joan is born and Miss Julie and Hedda Gabler become the maids. The beautiful prospect, the hope of faith and love, of happy days, ends with broken jugs: Effi begins an affair Rue de Lourcine with the auditor Crampas. What follows is a dance of death, an evil spring awakening from the midsummer night's dream." (Clemens Sienknecht)

Barbara Bürk and Clemens Sienknecht received the Theaterpreis Hamburg 2016 in the category "Outstanding Production / Dramaturgy" for "Effi Briest - but with a different text and a different melody".
