Take a seat in the bar of the Algonquin Hotel in New York in the 1920s. This is where the writer, theater and literary critic Dorothy Parker (* 22.08.1893, New Jersey; † 07.06.1967, New York) regularly met with journalist friends at the round table for happy hour. She was a free-spirited, independent and keenly observant woman who was also notorious for her sarcasm. Her writing and reviews for VOGUE, VANITY FAIR, ESQUIRE, LIFE and THE NEW YORKER made her widely known. Dorothy Parker's short stories, which have lost none of their topicality, wisdom and charm even after almost 100 years, deal, among other things, with the dependencies in love relationships, the battle of the sexes, the absurdity and cruelty of war, as well as social status and racism towards minorities.
