Eine Wirklichkeit – Zwischen Fassaden Potemkinscher Dörfer

What becomes visible, conceals at the same time.

The term Potemkin villages goes back to the Russian prince Grigori Potemkin, who is said to have built carefully staged backdrops along Catherine the Great's travel route in 1787 to suggest prosperity and progress and conceal grievances. Today, the term is synonymous with visual and spatial illusions that construct, distort or conceal reality.

On more than 300 square meters, the exhibition A Reality brings together 20 historical and contemporary examples of illusions and invites us to question what we believe in when everything seems credible.
