When trying to describe the music of EL FLECHA NEGRA, you can sometimes reach your limits. Diverse, intercultural, full of energy - the list of life-affirming adjectives goes on and on. One thing is clear: EL FLECHA NEGRA live and breathe the rich musical tradition of South America and are inspired by rhythms such as mambo, merengue and salsa. But their sound also has elements of reggae, ska and cumbia - with a hint of hip-hop hidden here and there.
Far from being pigeonholed into familiar genres, EL FLECHA NEGRA 's music offers one thing above all: pulsating joie de vivre and timeless entertainment.
A look at the band's composition shows that EL FLECHA NEGRA's musical diversity is no coincidence: the five musicians from Germany, Chile, Colombia and Peru span four countries and two continents with their songs. So it's no wonder that their sound is bursting with cultural richness. And it's not just from a musical perspective that EL FLECHA NEGRA are true citizens of the world. The band's lyrics also advocate openness, tolerance and cohesion - in Spanish and with plenty of optimism. With this message, they have gained a large audience in recent years and established themselves as a permanent fixture on the European festival scene (including Fusion, Tollwood and Das Fest).
EL FLECHA NEGRA started out as a street music trio: equipped with guitar, double bass and cajon, they built a musical bridge to South America, almost 9,000 kilometers away, in the alleyways of Freiburg's old town in 2014. With their unadulterated sound and charisma, they quickly became a sought-after live band - even beyond the borders of the Breisgau metropolis. Nevertheless, the musicians remain true to their adopted home and dedicate a musical declaration of love to it in 2015 with their debut album "Schwarzwald".
This was followed by over 200 concerts in Germany and Europe as well as a brilliant tour of Chile. On their second longplayer "Tropikal Passport", EL FLECHA NEGRA present themselves as a quintet, expanding their sound to include trumpets, traditional flutes and psychedelic chicha guitar. They finally released their long-awaited live album in 2020, but the coronavirus pandemic put an abrupt end to the musicians' exuberant joy of playing. The stage comeback with the third studio album "Renacer" was all the more energetic: the band bowed deeper than ever to their musical influences - bachata, zoca, merengue, mambo urbano, balada, Latín hip-hop and, of course, cumbia.
From fall 2024, EL FLECHA NEGRA will be celebrating ten years of band history with a big anniversary tour - a fiery fiesta full of Latin roots and Caribbean lightness.
