Ella´s PLace

The band around Peter Weiss (drums), Werner Neumann (guitar), Lars Duppler (piano) and Matthias Novak (double bass) brings together four distinguished musicians from the German jazz scene to create a quartet sound characterized by chamber music. On their album Ella's Place, the formation is primarily dedicated to the quiet, lyrical side of jazz.

The program consists mainly of ballads and unfolds a dense, atmospheric world of sound in which space, timbre and melodic subtlety take center stage. In addition to original compositions by the band members - such as Swan Song by Werner Neumann or The Ransom by Lars Duppler - the quartet also interprets selected standards such as Darn That Dream. The musicians combine their individual voices to create a transparent, finely balanced ensemble sound.

The pieces develop in calm arcs and thrive on the sensitive interaction of the four instrumentalists. Neumann's guitar sound, Duppler's nuanced piano playing, Novak's warm double bass and the subtle, colorful drumming of Peter Weiss together create an intimate musical atmosphere. Ella's Place is thus an album that focuses less on virtuosity than on expression, depth of sound and narrative calm - a ballad program full of fine details and musical dialogues.
