Emilia Neumann: Rodinia

In the organizer's words:

The Frankfurt-based artist Emilia Neumann (born 1985) works primarily with polymer plaster and concrete, which she colors with pigments during the casting process. The formative elements of her sculptures are everyday objects, which she dismantles, cuts up and reassembles. After casting, she polishes some areas to a high gloss, while others are deliberately left raw and untreated.

In their form, the sculptures show traces of industrial production as well as seemingly organic growth. They appear familiar and at the same time strange, elude clear classification and thus open up ever new possibilities of interpretation.

Emilia Neumann deals with the fundamental questions of sculpture and transfers them into a contemporary context. At the heart of her practice is the interplay of form, color, surface, space and time - always in relation to the viewer. The exhibition space itself becomes an active component of the work. Questions about missing elements, defining characteristics or imaginary narratives flow into her artistic exploration and lend her works a special spatial presence.
