It is a good tradition of the Five Lakes Film Festival to show feature films and short films from Taiwan, which can not only bring the film country closer, but also the thinking, society and nature of this Asian island. In cooperation with the Taipei Representation in the Federal Republic of Germany (Munich office), we have been opening up the view of Taiwan and Taiwanese cinema for many years and would like to promote the merging of two cultures as well as political cohesion, which has become very important these days.
The long-standing partnership between the district of Starnberg and New Taipei (formerly Taipei County) began in 1980 with the visit of a military parachuting delegation from Taiwan to Starnberg on the occasion of their participation in the world championships in Altenstadt/Schongau. The resulting contacts with Taipei County led to the official invitation of a county delegation to Taipei a year later. Taiwan is located about 160 kilometers from the southeast coast of mainland China in the Pacific Ocean, halfway between Korea and Japan in the north and Hong Kong and the Philippines in the south. The island state has around 20 million inhabitants.
