Ensemble Almanach DER ALPENGANG

With Der Alpengang, the Munich ensemble Almanach tells the story of a journey into the mountains. Songs about the mountain world by Robert Schumann, Franz Schubert and Josephine Lang are combined with short quotations from hikers. Embedded in soundscapes, the rugged rocks, the wide valleys, but also the thoughts, fears and experiences of the travelers come to life. The listener becomes a fellow hiker!

Almanach wants to take the song back to its roots. On the one hand with the exuberance and freedom of music-making as we know it from the countryside, and on the other with an instrumentarium that reflects these soundscapes and traditions: A unique blend of town and country, past and present, classical music and immediacy. Dulcimer, double bass, clarinet and accordion accompany the singing voice and bring the songs of Schubert and Co. back to their place of origin. The result is an intense, colorful sound that alternates with transparent tones. In this way, the landscapes, customs and people that once inspired composers to write their songs are brought back to life.
