Title of the annual conference: Alerta, Alerta, Debt Relief Activista! Fair debt relief between multilateralism and nationalism.

When and where: The erlassjahr.de Annual Conference 2025 will take place from November 07 to 09, 2025 at the CJD Conference and Guest House in Bonn. Register as soon as possible using our form so that we can plan better! Places are limited!

Who: For our annual conference we were able to win the Global Policy Forum Europe, Südwind, Evangelische Akademie Bad Boll and the Evangelical Church District Bonn as cooperation partners!

Who for: The conference is aimed at all interested parties - whether long-standing activists, co-sponsoring organizations or new interested parties.

What is it about?

In countries of the Global South, the debt crisis is worsening and massively restricting the scope for action for the realization of social, economic and political human rights. At the same time, international cooperation is coming under pressure: right-wing libertarians and nationalist forces are gaining influence and openly questioning the basic principle of multilateral cooperation. For example, the fourth UN Development Finance Conference in Seville this year showed once again that the USA under Trump is explicitly opposed to inclusive, multilateral solutions within the UN framework. Other countries of the Global North - including the EU member states - are also pushing for the preservation of existing privileges and blocking key demands from the Global South, particularly where the redistribution of decision-making power is concerned.

Civil society actors are also coming under increasing pressure: they are not only fighting against shrinking political leeway, but also against dwindling resources and right-wing agitation as well as attempts to delegitimize their work.

How can we continue to fight for a just debt relief policy under these conditions? How is international debt policy changing under the pressure of right-wing narratives - and how is the space for multilateral solutions changing as a result? What remains of the hope of achieving a fairer international financial architecture through inclusive UN processes and supranational legislation - and what conditions are needed for this? What scope for action remains for civil society actors - both nationally and internationally? And how can we effectively combine our various struggles for global justice?

The annual conference of erlassjahr.de brings together committed people, experts and international voices to find answers, share strategies and courageously continue the fight for fair debt relief. We also want to look at how the work of erlassjahr.de will continue in the coming year.

Everyone who is committed to global justice is invited - whether long-time campaigners, co-sponsoring organizations or new interested parties.
