In her latest work POST-ORIENTALIST EXPRESS, choreographer Eun-Me Ahn and eight dancers delve deep into the rich traditions and flowing movements of Asia.
POST-ORIENTALIST EXPRESS challenges the representations of Asia - from the Caucasus to the Indian subcontinent and Japan - and reinterprets them. The images, which have often been romanticized in the West and partially adopted or even distorted within Asia, require a critical revision - a new cultural identity that points beyond the contrasts of tradition and modernity.
Eun-Me Ahn deliberately uses legends, costumes, music, movements and pop culture to make these clichés visible - only to then twist them and exaggerate them to the point of absurdity. In POST-ORIENTALIST EXPRESS, Eun-Me Ahn creates an impressive space in which diverse cultural and choreographic perspectives collide and powerfully redefine themselves.
