The band name Evelyn Kryger is synonymous with boundless creative freedom in music. Between conceptual precision, playful freedom and unbridled live energy, the band proliferates with a multitude of stylistic possibilities, which at times interpenetrate each other and at others create sharp edges between post-rock, jazz, global groove, ambient, urban force and the exquisite subtleties of all imaginable musical ethnicities. Similar to and yet different from the best moments of Return To Forever, the Pat Metheny Group, Radiohead, Godspeed You! Black Emperor or ADHD, all these influences and backgrounds flow together into a harmonious whole that no longer requires categorization. Evelyn Kryger has developed her very own sonic visual language whose vocabulary boils down to the unconditional compatibility of all forms of expression and set pieces. Since the new album "III" at the latest, it has become clear that this combination of complexity and open unity paired with a good dose of danceability is only available from Evelyn Kryger.

Less is usually more, but not always. On their new album "III", the quartet Evelyn Kryger shows with flying colors that you can put everything you've got into a project and end up with even more than you thought.

Without having planned it this way, saxophonist Christoph "Cito" Kaling, keyboarder Arne Dreske, bassist Jonas Holland-Moritz and drummer Hannes Dunker have succeeded in creating a monumental overall work with "III", which bears the traits of a concept album. In contrast to all of the band's previous albums, this time, instead of a fixed line-up for all songs, they relied on a variable group of guests who provided individual timbres and shades, moments of tension or changes of direction in the various songs. Guitarist Omar Gudjonsson from the Icelandic post-rock band ADHD, Brazilian rapper Laíz, trumpeter Tom Trabandt, saxophonist Richard Häckel, violinist Roland Satterwhyte and Venezuelan percussionist Nené Vásquez enrich the band's spectrum in various songs with their respective idioms. In this way, Evelyn Kryger creates a wide dramaturgical arc of tension from jazz and prog rock, soundtrack-like passages, pop borrowings, Latin grooves, folkloristic colorations to the precision and density of classical music and the detached openness of jam rock.

Evelyn Kryger consciously works with contrasts. Similar to the best moments of Return To Forever, the Pat Metheny Group, Nils Petter Molvaer or ADHD, all these influences and backgrounds flow together to form a harmonious whole that no longer requires categorization. Because one thing is clear from the very first note and continues to the last bar: this is always and exclusively a statement by Evelyn Kryger.
