Many fans remember him as the long-haired winger at Borussia Mönchengladbach. He spent eight years of his career playing in his second home on the left bank of the Lower Rhine, and quite a few still have the images of his slashed thigh in mind. He is also known for his commitment to social justice and climate protection. Now Ewald Lienen is returning to his old place of work.

On 12.05.2026, he will make a guest appearance in the NEW Box in a different role. The venues in Bremervörde, Duisburg, Bonn, Bielefeld, Cologne and Essen were packed. The audience was thrilled. In his stage program "Fußball- und wie das Leben so spielt"... the audience can expect an informative and entertaining menu, spiced up with lots of funny anecdotes and humour. He will be accompanied on stage by presenter Michael Born (dazn). The fantastic musician Helmut Krumminga (Wolf Maahn, BAP, Udo Lindenberg) will provide relaxation.

Of course, Ewald has invited two old companions for this special evening: Horst Köppel was German champion with Borussia in 1970, 1971, 1975, 1976 and 1977. In 1975 and 1979, he won the UEFA Cup with the Foals. In the 1982/83 season, he was coach to Ewald Lienen at Arminia Bielefeld. Winnie Hannes played at Bökelberg from 1975-1986 and became German champion with his team in 1976 and 1977 and UEFA Cup winner in 1979.
