Exponat des Monats: „Schutz im Bunker. Überlebensorte für Braunschweiger Bürgerinnen und Bürger“

Wolfgang Ernst was Braunschweig's best-known bunker expert until his death in 2022. He set special standards in numerous lectures in the Old Town Hall and in the bunkers of our hometown. His exhibition on "Survival Sites", which was presented in the Old Town Hall in 2004, was groundbreaking. Dr. Christian Werner prepared a lecture on the bunkers in Braunschweig after the Second World War based on the research results and Wolfgang Ernst's collection of sources. He included references and photographs that he had received from Ernst's wife, Christa Ernst. He also collected exhibits from bunkers in Braunschweig from the Second World War and the post-war period together with employees of the Civil Defense in Braunschweig. In view of the threats of war in the present day, the topic is unfortunately of oppressive topicality. The starting point of this lecture is the recreated shelter with contemporary exhibits in the exhibition of the Municipal Museum, Altstadtrathaus location.
