A pub, a movie - and the question of togetherness

Ludwigshafen-Melm. - How do you save an inn? This seemingly simple question is full of emotion, memories and a large portion of a sense of home. As part of the 16th European Film Festival of Generations, the Protestant Jakobuskirche invites you to a special cinema evening on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at 5:30 pm: The film "Fanni - How do you save an inn?" will be shown.

The documentary tells the story of a place that is more than just tables and chairs: it is a meeting place, living room, sometimes a refuge - and above all a piece of lived community.

Following the screening, the topic will be continued in a lively way: Ms. Dolly El-Ghandour, manager of the Ludwigshafen pub "Zuhaus", talks about how she was able to save "her" pub from closure. Her experiences are a moving example of how commitment and passion can save a place where people come together.

The Melm knitting group will provide a lovingly prepared buffet to ensure that the evening is also a small culinary celebration of encounters. The Friends of St. James Church will also be offering drinks. Free admission - a warm invitation to everyone who appreciates movies, conversation and fellowship.

Because sometimes all it takes is a screen, a few people - and the question: How do we save what unites us?
