Like all Indian arts, dance and theater originate from the liturgies of ancient Indian Hindu temples. Over the centuries, classical dance and dance theater developed from the temple dances, with diverse regional styles. Thematically, these are based on mythological themes that are regularly performed as part of the temple liturgies. The slide and video presentation introduces forms of Indian dance and theater from different regions, including Raslila and Ramlila theater from North India, Kathakali dance dramas from the South Indian state of Kerala and Yakshagana theater from Karnataka.

This measure is co-financed with tax revenue on the basis of the budget approved by the Saxon state parliament.
