Since Donald Trump's second inauguration as US president on January 20 this year, his administration has been launching a frontal assault on US democracy and the separation of powers. The judiciary, media, universities, authorities, states, cities - they are all confronted with an authoritarian claim to power that the USA did not even experience during the McCarthy era. Trump is following a playbook of fascist-authoritarian state restructuring. How did it get this far, why does the opposition seem so weak, what counter-strategies could there be - and what can we learn from this?
