Fat Freddy's Drop from Wellington, New Zealand, probably don't need much explaining to anyone. Over the 25 years of their existence, they have grown into a veritable stage monster that nobody can escape. Their first release was their 2001 album "Live at the Matterhorn", recorded live in Wellington, of course. Their international breakthrough, however, came with their second - some would say their actual debut album - the all-time classic "Based On A True Story" from 2005, on which they combined reverb and delay, horns, a fat, funky rhythm section with turntableism, soul, reggae, dub, jazz, hip hop and half a dozen other danceable styles; all filtered through their very own sense of humor and extreme relaxation. Their naturally fabulous concerts, which also took them to Europe for the first time at the time, did the rest. Not to mention the subsequent albums. Even live, wonderful jazz harmonies meet a rhythm section that can be just as funky as it can switch to a heavy blues stomp or kick out a fat hip-hop beat in the next moment. Not forgetting, of course, the cool version of roots and dub reggae that makes up a large part of their groove. Long story short: Fat Freddy's Drops are now returning to our stage. And to perform their classic "Based On A True Story" live again in all its glory for their 20th anniversary! You just have to write it in big, bold letters.
