Music that feels like we're sitting very close to its author the whole time. Music that takes hold immediately. First take, yes, staging, no. Now FEE PENAFIEL, formerly known as FEE. from Frankfurt is back with her third album "Die Wolken über uns" (The Clouds Above Us) - and fortunately she's coming to our house.
Her mixture of softly sparkling singer/songwriter indie pop, honest lyrics and real stories, musical hidden object pictures, remains as touching as ever.
After her last album "Nachtluft", which was released in 2020, life may have taken on new strings, but FEE. remained unwaveringly true to her roots. Just like the strings of her flea market guitar - which she has never changed and with which she still prefers to start her songs on the edge of her bed. The earliest musical experience she remembers is a picture: squeezing into a much too narrow armchair with her sister, listening to her mother sitting by the fire playing the acoustic guitar. Now we join her by the campfire on our stage.
*Why the new name? She writes: "Many of you don't know this - a few years ago, when Corona caused major changes for me musically, professionally and, like all of us, personally and emotionally, and the world felt like it had been turned upside down, I shifted the center of my life to Portugal, where I spent a lot of time. At a time when my inner and outer world seemed to be in shambles, I found peace, strength, warmth, philanthropy and the warm culture in Portugal. In the middle of nowhere, surrounded by fields, animals and a few locals. The place where I encountered all this has the wonderful name Penafiel. I always hear it on the local radio when they talk about Penafiel in the northern Portuguese dialect. I still get excited every time I hear that sound.
And to bring it all together - the Portuguese influences, the gratitude for this unagitated place in a wild time and my personal development, I will henceforth call myself FEE PENAFIEL."
