In 1935, Antoni Benaiges is hired as a teacher in a small, remote village in Burgos, Spain. There he builds up an intense relationship with his pupils, all between the ages of six and twelve. He makes them a promise: He will take them to the sea for the first time in their lives. 75 years later, Ariadna, a granddaughter of one of these students who has set out in search of her grandfather, discovers the wonderful but tragic story of her teacher and the history behind a promise that was never kept.
