Ferge x Fisherman / The Komets

In the organizer's words:

Ferge X Fisherman
Detached from any conventionality, the songs of the hip hop band Ferge X Fisherman are entirely in the spirit of jazz, which plays a gigantic role in their music. Above all, the group's casual, subtle complexity ensures that the freedoms of this genre shine through in their music time and again. Every dab of sound lands exactly where it belongs: a piano figure suddenly fills the gaps; a clever chord change shifts the harmonic structure for a brief moment; a snare hit comes a millisecond too late and thus creates the unmistakable laid-back feeling of Ferge X Fisherman. As is so often the case, it's the little details that turn something good into something great. And on top of it all is Fritz Fisherman, who raps like a jazz instrumentalist would.

With his fresh approach to the English language and his introspective lyricism (as well as his slightly smoky, slightly nasal voice), he forms the lyrical center of the band. The project began with him and producer Ferge, who met as teenagers while skating in Nuremberg. However, their original chemistry was quickly expanded to include a close collaboration with the four-piece, super-savvy jazz band Nujakasha, who have become an integral part of Ferge X Fisherman both in the studio and live.

Over time, this circle of friends also gave rise to their own label, where the six musicians handle almost everything themselves (e.g. videos, merch, finances). This team spirit is also evident in the music of Ferge X Fisherman: the wonderful crackling of old vinyl samples is combined with crisp drums, smooth electric piano chords and adventurous bass lines. This results in tracks in which a lot happens - and which are nevertheless easy to grasp. You never want to let them go.

The feature list already includes well-known names such as Mick Jenkins, Jerome Thomas, Takuya Kuroda, Noah Slee and Hunter Rose, to name but a few.

The Komets

It's almost cheeky how seductive the whispering secrets that The Komets instill in you are. Carrying polyphony, silky instrumentals and an unmistakable flow make this young indie band an irresistible addition to the German music scene. Harmony is in all the melancholy layers, wrapping the various sounds like colorful, crackling candy wrappers that hold sweet surprises. Every note is carefully curated and yet there is an inherent lightness to the songs.

Paulina (vocals, piano), Klara (vocals, cello), Anna (vocals, guitar) and Jonny (drums) bring together not only concentrated passion, but also musical finesse. Despite their wide-ranging tastes, which span indie, soul, jazz and folk, the friends share a vision that benefits from their bond with one another. They can agree on idiosyncratic role models such as Orla Gartland or boygenius and find inspiration here together. But it is precisely this individual diversity that brings surprising twists and turns to the indie sound. The Komets complement the classic band setting with the warmth of a cello and provide goosebump moments with sophisticated, three-part vocals.

They playfully develop the harmonious arrangements that give the individual songs a pleasant glow. Their friendship is above all else and so they put the current songs together in dedicated detail in a joint plenary session. Whereas The Komets used to work on song sketches alone, they now rely on the blossoming power of their diverse experiences from A to Z.

"We like to try out a lot. That's why our songs are all so different, because we don't just have one way of writing music," is how the band describes their collaboration. Without doggedness or strategic ideals, the four of them have been making music in this constellation since 2020 - the three girls even longer.

Their live performances thrive on mutual trust. The Komets quickly played several shows in Ingolstadt and Regensburg, where the band got its start.

The debut album "Vibrancy" (2020) sealed the young band's determination. The songs sounded much more reduced and soulful, but still laid the foundations. In 2021, they received the Regensburg Music Prize and a first radio performance on BR PULS followed. On their EP "Into Bloom" (2022) , the arrangements then became bigger and the instruments seem to throw the ball back and forth, mixing more in a dynamic coexistence. You can almost hear the laughter that accompanies the four of them between the notes. With the tracks from "Into Bloom", The Komets have also opened for bands such as Forward or Jeremias in large open-air venues and quickly expanded their fan base.

The current EP entitled "All These Days" (25.10.2024) is now another step forward, as Paulina, Klara, Anna and Jonny have once again grown together in the intensive work on it. With the support of the young label corner.company and several producers, an intimate insight into the shared lives of the four has been created.

"The lyrics have all grown out of very personal topics and address something from an 'I' perspective that drives all four of us. "Here, The Komets once again bring to the point what makes them special: a light-flooded, silky lightness.
