The goldfish girl Ponyo dreams of becoming a human - much to the displeasure of her father, an underwater magician. With the help of magical powers, Ponyo actually manages to escape from the colorful water world. When she gets into danger on the coast, she is rescued at the last second by little Sosuke. Ponyo discovers the underwater world with him and her desire to stay with him grows with their friendship. But Ponyo's powers seem to unleash the oceans, triggering natural disasters that threaten Sosuke's home village.
