Who am I actually? How do I develop my own identity? What defines it? And what role does my skin color play in this? The two authors Raphaëlle Red and Kathrin Schrocke focus on these big life questions in their novels.
In "Adikou ", Raphaëlle Red explores the turmoil that many migrants feel when it comes to home, origin, home and being themselves from the perspective of the main character of the same name, who lives between France, Togo and the USA. The challenge facing 16-year-old Lenni in Kathrin Schrocke's "White Tears", on the other hand, is that he has to deal with everyday racism at his school and recognize the privileges he has compared to his immigrant and non-white school friends.
Raphaëlle Red grew up in Berlin, where she still lives today. She studied social sciences, researched and taught on contemporary literature of the African diaspora and then turned to literary writing. Raphaëlle Red writes in French, English and German.
Before devoting herself entirely to writing, Kathrin Schrocke from Essen worked as a press officer in the publishing industry and as a lecturer in adult education. Her work focuses on realistic young adult novels, a genre for which she has received numerous awards and nominations.
Translator, editor and literary agent Anabelle Assaf will host the evening.
