On September 17, 2025, the sweetSixteen arthouse cinema in Dortmund's Depot will be showing the moving documentary Das deutsche Volk. Director and author Marcin Wierzchowski spent four years accompanying the bereaved and survivors of the racist attack in Hanau in February 2020.
The film tells their story - from grief and personal processing to the ongoing fight for recognition and justice. It also shows how relatives search for answers themselves as they encounter a system that is unprepared for right-wing terror.
The screening will be followed by a discussion with the director.
