Based on Daphne du Maurier's novella "Don't Look Now", this film tells the story of Laura and John Baxter, who move to Venice after the traumatic accidental death of their daughter, where John is tasked with restoring a church. Laura soon meets two mysterious old sisters, one of whom seems to have clairvoyant abilities and claims to be in contact with her daughter. Laura is fascinated, while John fiercely rejects this idea, but at the same time is increasingly haunted by eerie visions. And suddenly one mysterious event follows another until a catastrophe occurs...

With his classic film, Nicolas Roeg has created an oppressive masterpiece of psychological thriller. In an atmospherically dense setting, he stages Venice as the scene of an unstoppable nightmare, whose disturbingly artfully arranged images blur the boundaries between reality and fantasy. Donald Sutherland's (1935-2024) acting presence was decisive. With his intensity, he plays the deeply traumatized, guilt-ridden father who is consumed by the dramatic conflict between his sceptical pragmatism and his visions.
