When the world begins to shake, when the familiar dissolves and external unrest seeps into the inner self, the body begins to carry the unspeakable. Flesh and Shadow, the new production by the Urban Arts Ensemble Ruhr, captures this fragile present and transforms it into an abstract dance narrative about pain, identity and the faint hope of connection.

Exceptional choreographer and dancer Rauf "Rubberlegz" Yasit creates haunting body images that look like inner landscapes - fragmented, distorted, pulsating. His choreography interweaves abstract breaking, experimental hip-hop and contemporary dance to create a radical, poetic language of movement. The bodies lose their balance, find new axes, fold in on themselves - as if they were questioning themselves.

The dancers of the international Urban Arts Ensemble Ruhr contribute their individual experiences, stories and vulnerabilities. The result is a performance of great emotional density - a web of closeness and distance, resistance and longing, beauty and rupture.

Flesh and Shadow is more than a piece about the body - it is a choreographic sculpture that allows new forms of expression to emerge from the fragmentary. In a space between visual artwork and urban ritual, it shows how classical sources of inspiration can be transformed into contemporary forms without ever fully committing themselves.

The piece is a silent homage to survival, to the power of transformation, to our ability to feel, create and stay connected despite decay. It invites the audience to immerse themselves in a world in which the body speaks what words are often unable to capture - and in which a spark of light always glows in the shadows.

Flesh and Shadow is a new production by Urban Arts Ensemble Ruhr funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia as part of the New Arts Ruhr program and by the City of Herne.
