Romantic love in all its forms is a popular topos in films. It is not uncommon for it to be brushed against the grain. As in the improvised comedy EVERY MAN IN NEW YORK IS NAMED ANDREW, in which a young woman desperately searches for a date and repeatedly finds herself embarrassing herself in front of men named Andrew. In JANUARY, Willem has to realize that his feelings for his ex-partner are fleeting. The enchanting coming-of-age film ME AND YOU AND SMOKE delves into the daydreams of a 12-year-old boy who has a crush on the girl next door. In DAS ZITTERN DER AALE (The Trembling of the Eels ), two female students act out their affection for each other, with Munich becoming the backdrop for a romantic summer's day.
