The Ties That Bind: Films about family conflicts

The relationship between father and son is not always easy. In MAJINI, for example, the son has to stand in for his sick father in his hard work as a deep-sea fisherman. In PAST THE HILL OF NAPOLEON'S HAT, the relationship between the two is so shattered that they don't know whether it can still be saved. The two documentaries offer glimpses of death in a family. In PASSING ON, the director spends the last weeks together with her almost 90-year-old grandmother, who is suffering from dementia. THOSE WHO ARE LEFT follows a Palestinian family coping with the death of 22-year-old Omar, who was shot dead by the Israeli military.
